About Motel Sicks
A father takes his son on a road trip to a ballgame and a night at a rundown roadside motel. Told entirely through the father's eyes, the night in Room 10 slowly comes apart, and so does everything he thought he knew about the trip, the room, and the boy beside him.
The screenplay grew out of a real motel stay on a road trip to Detroit in the summer of 2026. It's currently out on the screenplay contest circuit, with a proof-of-concept short, ROOM 10, in development to shoot in New Jersey.
Written by Sandy Weed Jr., a Jersey Shore writer, musician, and former teacher.

Who's Checked In

A grieving father on one last road trip. The night clerk knows him by name.

His son. Riding shotgun. Always just out of the frame.

“Hey, stranger. Long time, no see?” She was promised a ride once.

Night clerk. Two hundred cash or a card in your name. He's seen Dutch before.

Bathrobe, cigarette, and the only one who'll tell you about Big Red.

Iraq vet. Paces the halls. Hasn't said a word since he's been back. Except one.

The landscaper. Works the motel on a rotating route. Keeps his tools close.

Skull mask, spiked collar, music crackling from a blown phone speaker. Does he live here?

The trucker. Crosses the lobby, one indifferent glance, and keeps moving.

Overturned bucket, cracked outlet, face lit blue. Doesn't look up.

The Novel
The film never explains. The book goes further. The Motel Sicks novelization follows the same night through Dutch's eyes and opens the doors the screenplay keeps shut: where Big Red came from, what Joy was waiting for, and who Don was before he started mowing motel lawns.
